How Much Does Salt Damp Treatment Cost in SA?
If you have just found salt damp in your home, or a building inspector has pointed it out in a house you are thinking of buying, it makes sense to want honest pricing upfront. We understand that you are probably not ready to book a quote until you know roughly what you are dealing with.
At Tech-Dry SA, we have been fixing salt damp in South Australian homes since 1991. We offer free inspections and fixed price quotes because we know how stressful and confusing this can feel. This guide will help you understand what might affect the cost and what to expect.
A Few Things to Think About First
Before we get to the numbers, here are some simple questions to help you figure out where you stand:
- Are you sure it is salt damp? Sometimes the issue is actually mould, condensation, or musty smells caused by poor airflow.
- Can it be fixed with general maintenance? You might not need treatment if lowering your pavers or improving drainage solves the problem.
- Are you planning to renovate or knock down the walls soon? If so, you might not need to treat them now.
- Are the walls strong enough for treatment? In rare cases, the wall may be too damaged to treat and might need repairs first.
Not sure? You can check out our What is Salt Damp? page for more information or book a free inspection so we can take a proper look.
What Does Salt Damp Treatment Cost?
Our standard treatment involves injecting a siloxane damp-coursing cream at the bottom of your walls to stop more moisture and salt from rising.
The price depends on a few things, like the type of wall, how thick it is, and what it is made from. However, here is a general guide:
Wall Type and Thickness:
- Single brick walls usually cost around $90 to $100 per metre
- Double brick or block walls are about $100 to $120 per metre
- Stone walls up to 450 millimetres thick cost between $120 and $150 per metre
- Stone walls over 450 millimetres thick – must be quoted via visual inspection
The above price is charged in lineal metres, meaning the length of the wall that is being treated.
What Else Can Affect the Price
- Thicker walls need more product and time
- Some materials like limestone soak up more moisture, while others like bluestone are harder to drill into
- If there is already a lot of damage, extra work like plastering or repointing might be needed after the treatment
- Salt damp usually stays under one metre high, but if it has been left for too long it might be higher, which means more repair work
- If there is only a small section to treat, there may be a minimum charge to cover set up costs
Important:
The prices above are for injection treatment only. This process stops new moisture and salts from rising, helping to prevent the problem from getting worse. It does not remove the damage that’s already there. To restore the wall properly, extra repairs such as plastering or masonry work will be needed. We’ll explain all of this clearly during your inspection.
Additional Costs to Consider
Depending on your property, there may be extra costs such as:
- Electrical or plumbing modifications (e.g. power points, aircon units)
- Removal and refitting of skirting boards
- Travel to regional areas
- Rubble removal or generator hire
- Follow-up services like painting or masonry repair
